County Prosecuting Attorney announces indictment of MPD officer on multiple sexual assault counts

Public’s assistance sought in ongoing investigation

Devin Schoeppner, 49, a veteran officer with the Maui Police Department, was indicted by a Maui grand jury last week for multiple counts of sexual assault in the second and third degrees, County of Maui Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Martin announced today. The charges stem from an encounter between Schoeppner and a citizen following a single-car crash of the victim’s vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney is asking for the public’s assistance.

“We believe there are individuals who had interactions with Mr. Schoeppner or know someone who did, either recently or in the past. We ask anyone who may have information to please contact us. You may think your information is unimportant, or perhaps already known by law enforcement. Please provide any information you may have so that we may assess it. We understand there may be circumstances that cause people to be hesitant to come forward. However, your information is important and will be handled with discretion and care. Although Mr. Schoeppner has been indicted, we are committed to following up on all information related to him,” Martin said.
