H-1 SALT LAKE REHABILITATION PROJECT ESTIMATED FOR NOVEMBER 2026 COMPLETION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HONOLULU – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies highway users of the new estimated completion date of the H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation project and what work remains. The new estimated completion date is November 2026; this is updated from previously estimated August 2026.
The extension of the completion date is due to the project experiencing a total of 333 unworkable days through the duration of the project. Unworkable days are due to various circumstances with severe weather and subcontractor availability being the main contributors. Every canceled weekend of work added one week to the project schedule.
Paving work nears completion in the eastbound direction between the Pearl Harbor Interchange and the Salt Lake Boulevard underpass, as crews work on the final portions of repaving shoulders and ramps within the project area. This weekend’s continuous closure from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 will be the last of repaving work.
Permanent striping work in the eastbound direction is from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day, Monday through Thursday evenings. This closure may utilize either a two-right, or three-left lane closure, depending on the day’s scope of work. One direction/side is to be closed at a time.
Remaining work includes eastbound striping, rumble strip installations and installation of signage and delineators in both directions. Guardrail installations throughout the project area were completed as of June 2026. Final striping and punch-list work in the westbound direction was completed as of Friday, Sept. 11.
Please note all work is weather permitting. The final completion date of this project is subject to change per these conditions.
HDOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, be aware of all traffic control signs and barriers and plan commutes ahead of time. Special duty police officers will be on-site assisting with safety procedures.
